Islamabad, August 14, 2025 – Pakistan marked its 78th Independence Day today with nationwide celebrations, as citizens across the country renewed their commitment to unity, progress, and prosperity.

The day began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals, followed by the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation, paying tribute to the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and reaffirming the government’s resolve to steer the country toward stability and development.

Major roads, buildings, and landmarks in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar were illuminated with green and white lights. Government and private organizations arranged cultural programs, rallies, and independence-themed competitions to mark the occasion.

Citizens of all ages, dressed in green and white attire, thronged parks, markets, and public spaces waving national flags and chanting patriotic slogans. Children especially enjoyed wearing badges and painting their faces in the national colors.

The day also witnessed a strong display of solidarity from overseas Pakistanis, with communities abroad organizing flag-hoisting ceremonies and cultural events.

Security was put on high alert across the country to ensure smooth conduct of Independence Day festivities.

Independence Day in Pakistan is celebrated every year on 14th August to commemorate the nation’s freedom from British rule in 1947, under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
