Bureau Chief Punjab, Malik Maqsood Chinioti, reports:
District President of Kisan Ittehad, Sohrab Khan, along with Chairman Mumtaz Sajnka, Founder Amjad Noul, and other farmers, addressed a press conference in Chiniot regarding the severe challenges faced by farmers after the recent floods.
The press conference was attended by Patron Syed Shafqat Abbas, Azhar Khan, Sanaullah, Mian Ikram, Founder of Kisan Ittehad Amjad Noul, and Chaudhry Fakhar Sajnka.
Speaking at the event, District President Sohrab Lona said:
- “The floods have caused devastation everywhere in Chiniot. Farmers’ wheat was looted by middlemen, which is now being sold at Rs. 4,000. Our homes have collapsed, livestock have drowned, and we have suffered billions in losses. The rice and maize crops have been completely destroyed, while sugarcane has also been severely damaged. Large areas of land have been eroded.”
He demanded:
- Immediate construction of a permanent embankment to stop land erosion.
- Declaration of affected areas including Mouza Sahmal and surrounding villages as disaster-hit zones.
- Relief and support for the farmers who have been ignored by the government.
Farmer leaders criticized the government for exploiting farmers instead of supporting them.
They said:
- “Farmers are supposed to be the guarantors of food security, yet today we are being treated like stepchildren.”
They also condemned the humiliation farmers faced on social media, where flood-affected farmers’ images were circulated on TikTok, damaging their dignity and self-respect.
