Lahore Police Announce Zero Tolerance on Kite Flying Before Government Approval

Lahore: Lahore Police have clearly announced a zero-tolerance policy against kite flying before official government approval, stating that Basant has not yet been permitted and all related activities remain strictly banned.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said that no kite will be allowed to fly in the sky without government permission. Any early activity in the name of Basant will be treated as an unforgivable crime and dealt with under the law.

He further stated that making, selling, transporting, or supplying kites is completely illegal at present, and police remain on high alert across the city. In January alone, 463 cases were registered, 11 kite factories were sealed, and the entire supply chain was disrupted.

According to DIG Operations, 44 kite sellers and 426 kite flyers were arrested without any concession. During police raids, 5,551 deadly kites and 348 spools (charkhis) were recovered.

Transport of kites has been fully banned, and strict online and offline monitoring has been enforced. Faisal Kamran added that action has also been intensified against those supplying kites through online taxi services.

Lahore Police have established effective coordination with online taxi companies to prevent illegal kite transportation. Rides being used for kite supply have been identified, and a joint monitoring system has been activated.

DIG Operations warned that strict action will be taken against anyone violating the law. Before Basant, checking at all entry and exit points of the city has been tightened.

Chemical-coated and metallic kite strings remain strictly prohibited under all circumstances, and zero tolerance will continue even after any permission is granted. Faisal Kamran emphasized that no activity will be allowed without official government approval.

He concluded by saying that violating the law in the name of Basant means a direct route to jail. Citizens have been advised not to believe rumors and to follow only official announcements. Even during permitted days, strict legal action will be taken against any violation. Crime Reporter: Ejaz Shah
