Polio remains one of the most pressing health challenges in the world today, and Pakistan is among the countries still striving to completely eradicate this disease. The Government of Pakistan, under the leadership of the Ministry of National Health Services, has intensified efforts to ensure that every child is protected against this crippling virus.
Recently, Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal visited the National Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to review the progress of the latest nationwide polio campaign. During this campaign, health workers successfully administered polio drops to more than 19.8 million children across the country. This large-scale effort reflects the government’s strong commitment to safeguarding the health and future of our young generations.
The Federal Minister emphasized that polio eradication is a top national priority. He reiterated that the oral polio vaccine (OPV) is completely safe and urged parents to ensure that their children receive the vaccine during every campaign. By doing so, families not only protect their own children but also contribute to a healthier, polio-free Pakistan.
Honoring the Sacrifices of Health Workers
The fight against polio in Pakistan has not been without sacrifice. Over the years, hundreds of brave health workers and security personnel have lost their lives while serving on the frontlines of vaccination drives. Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal paid tribute to these heroes, calling their sacrifices “a shining chapter in our national history.” He reaffirmed that the government, together with international partners, will continue to honor their legacy by ensuring that polio is eradicated once and for all.
A Collective Responsibility
Polio eradication is not only the responsibility of the government or health authorities — it is a collective mission that requires the cooperation of every parent, community, and civil society group. By opening our doors to vaccinators and encouraging others to do the same, we can protect millions of children from a preventable disease that causes lifelong disability.
A Hopeful Future
With consistent campaigns, international support, and nationwide dedication, Pakistan is steadily moving toward a polio-free future. The Federal Health Minister concluded his remarks with a strong message: “We will eradicate polio at all costs, and together, we will secure a healthier tomorrow for our children.”
