Despite the passage of one month, Islamabad Police has failed to arrest the attackers of Neutral Media Journalists Association (NAJ) President and central leader of Azad Journalist Panel, Rana Iqbal Sikandar. The slow pace of the Sangjani Police is raising serious concerns, even though the complainant has already provided complete data of the culprits to the authorities.
Journalist organizations in Islamabad have strongly condemned the non-arrest of the accused, warning that they will stage a sit-in outside the Parliament House until the culprits are brought to justice. They urged SSP Operations, DIG, and IG Islamabad to take personal interest in the case, stressing that if journalists are unsafe in the federal capital, then the protection of ordinary citizens is even more questionable.
Sources revealed that the main accused, Obaid Abbasi, is involved in dark web activities and allegedly attacked Rana Iqbal Sikandar with armed men after the journalist prepared to expose him. Abbasi, known for his criminal background, poses a major challenge for Islamabad Police. Another source claimed that Abbasi enjoys political backing, and Rana Iqbal Sikandar has already shared the names of these political figures with journalist leaders.
If any further harm comes to Rana Iqbal Sikandar, these names will be made public. Journalist bodies have also demanded that the federal government and the Minister for Information issue strict directives to Islamabad Police for immediate arrest of the culprits.
