District Administration Chiniot Intensifies Action Against Price Hike and Hoarding During Ramadan

Chiniot: In light of the zero-tolerance policy and special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the district administration in Chiniot has intensified its crackdown against profiteering, overcharging, and hoarding.

Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan, accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Ashfaq Rasool and the Secretary of the Market Committee, visited the vegetable market to review the auction process, prices, and quality of goods. During the visit, they also inquired about the supply and demand of essential commodities.

Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan stated that officers and price control magistrates are actively working in the field to ensure relief for the public.

On the 14th day of Ramadan, price control magistrates conducted 1,486 inspections to check prices and official rate lists. During these inspections, 19 cases of overcharging were identified.

Authorities imposed a total fine of Rs. 120,000 on violators. In cases of serious violations, one FIR was registered, one person was arrested, and eight shops were sealed, according to the Deputy Commissioner.

She further added that since the beginning of Ramadan, price control magistrates have carried out 16,578 inspections. As a result, 409 violations were detected, leading to fines totaling Rs. 2,222,000, 48 FIRs registered, 138 shops sealed, and 48 individuals arrested.

Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan emphasized that no one will be allowed to violate price control regulations, and strict action will continue to protect the public from exploitation.
