Rawalpindi: Late at night in the New Town area, two suspects traveling in a car opened fire on a police party after being signaled to stop.
During the exchange of fire, one injured suspect was arrested while the other managed to flee the scene. Police recovered a stolen car and weapons from the arrested suspect.
According to police sources, when officers attempted to stop the suspicious vehicle, the occupants opened indiscriminate firing. During the shooting, Constable Umair was also hit by a bullet but remained safe due to wearing a bulletproof jacket.
The recovered vehicle was reported stolen two months ago from the jurisdiction of New Town Police Station. The arrested suspect is a record holder and has previously been involved in multiple car theft incidents in the twin cities.
Upon receiving information about the incident, senior police officers reached the spot. A search operation is currently underway in the area to arrest the absconding suspect.
The injured suspect has been shifted to the hospital for medical treatment.
City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani appreciated the efforts of SP Rawal, SDPO New Town, and the New Town Police team.
Police officials stated that those who endanger the lives and property of citizens and attack police personnel will not escape the grip of the law.
